A large part of this neighbourhood was walled during the Middle Ages, hence the origin of its name, as on one of the walls was the figure of the virgin with a Latin phrase &#8220;Ora pro populo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gilmar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/gilmaroffplan.com\/2022\/12\/catedral-de-cadiz-gilmar.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46533\"\/><\/figure>\n<h4>La Vi\u00f1a:<\/h4>\n<p> A neighbourhood of humble origins, inhabited by fishermen.<br \/> Its name comes from the cultivation of vineyards that was carried out when the area was destined for orchards.<br \/> Closely linked to and present in the city&#8217;s carnival, this neighbourhood is one of the most representative of the festival.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gilmar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/gilmaroffplan.com\/2022\/12\/barrio-de-la-vin\u0303a-gilmar.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46534\"\/><\/figure>\n<p> In the La Vi\u00f1a neighbourhood you can visit the old Provincial Hospice, the castle of San Sebasti\u00e1n, the churches of La Palma and Santa Catalina, as well as the bastion of Los M\u00e1rtires and Los Capuchinos.
